Groomed Lady Like Perfection
A/W 10 sees a return to Mad Men inspired ladylike glamour.
This look is absolutely gorgeous. The Louis Vuitton campaign is one of their best in years. These three outfits are so fabulous that I am stuggling to choose a favourite. Those gloves! Elbow length gloves, by happy coincidence, are also perfect with another key autumn look – the cape. The Marie Antoinette pushed up bosom look has been toned down here making these dresses suitable for a wider age group.
Get the look
- Waists are cinched in, flattering curves and putting swing into your step
- Elbow length gloves look groomed and fabulous - pure Betty Dreaper
- Clutch or framed bags add even more polish. No slouchy, tatty bags.
Soft silver & lavender
Smart, chic and easy to wear. Cool greys team up well with muted plums for Autumn and use them later with key black pieces for winter.
A beautiful look from Luisa Beccaria’s latest collection is this stunning dress and soft, bow tied cardigan. The colours are muted, pretty and harmonious. Perfect for this time of year, soft, easy on the eye and not jarring. The grey tights and shoes finish this look perfectly. Gorgeous.
On the high street, the twisted tweed skirt from Karen Millen cuts a dash and Boden’s Roma dress is selling out fast. Also from Boden, the Soho jacket is chic and sharp. Good on smaller, neater busts – alas I don’t have one of those but if you do this is a great jacket. The grey shows off the detail well. For fabulous smokey grey step-out-in-town -shoes look no further than charcoal, suede lovelies in Russell and Bromley.
Camel is everywhere. The classic camel coat makes a comeback. Camel is so versatile. Personally, I love it teamed with scarlet and this stunning look from Max Mara’s Pre Fall 10 collection shows just how good that can look. It’s always chic teamed with black – I love my Chanel 255 in beige calf leather with black leather thread through strap or mix caramels and chocolates lusciously for a soft autumn look.
Nude patent shoes have been a brilliant buy for me this summer. They look great on bare tanned legs, are a travel essential as they work with practially any outfit and work with camel luxe this season. Try LK Bennett or Stuart Wizeman for Russell and Bromley. If you have read my piece on Rome, you know that Monica García are ones to watch.
Can be tricky – too unstructured or too rough a material can easily transport you swiftly away from chic gal/lady about town to ‘Nomadic woman about Afghanistan’ – on the whole not a great look. Get it right though and the prize for about town chic is yours. Heels and skirts look chic and swingy with capes – avoid flat shoes and trousers unless you are over 6ft or you could run dangerously close to looking like Robin of Batman and Robin fame. Holy Fashion Disaster!
